VU's Unity League - Matchday 1

Mar 31, 2007 - Lemon Yellow goes top! Captain Justin Teng led the team of youngsters, displaying true team-work and spirit to come up on top of the newly launched Unity League.


Team of the Day - Lemon Yellow
Backed by Azran whom once played for Stanford, Yellow started the first game with a nail-biting tie at 8-8 against Green at Hard-Cap (45mins).

They kept their spirit up and fought hard to score the next 2 points to clinch their first win.


Riding high on adrenaline, Yellow went on a roll to win 9-7 over Red. Red's youngsters fought back to score the next 4 points in a row, to cut the lead but ran out of time. Red's MVP William made an impressive layout in a puddle of mud for a point!

Player of the Day - Soon, captain of Baby Blue
Soon stepped up to the mark, captained team Baby Blue and inspired the team with some great plays as a 'handler'. A handler in Ultimate is equivalent to the valueable Quarter-back in American football.

Usually at pickup, Soon plays in the shadow of more experienced players. It is heartening to see development in leadership, experience and confidence in our local players. This is the main focus and drive behind the Unity League, our very first Ultimate league in Malaysia.

Unity League - 72 players in 4 teams pit against each other in 6 games over 6 weeks. Each week, 2 games are played to 13 points of 45 minutes with a 15 minute break in between to encourage spirit games and cheers.

Teams are awarded 3 points for a win in each game. Winners will be determined by the most number of points after 6 games.

Ultimate is unique non-contact sports played without a referee. Players call and resolve their own fouls, while upholding the 'Spirit of the Game'.
